These Terms set out the conditions that apply when you use the Vocaburn service.

1. Purpose and scope

  1. These Terms govern the use of the Vocaburn app and its web version (vocaburn.vercel.app) (the "Service") provided by an individual developer (the "Operator"), and set out the rights and obligations of the Operator and users.
  2. The collection, use, retention and deletion of personal information are governed by the separate Privacy Policy.
  3. For questions about the Service, use Settings > Contact us in the App or email philleeran@gmail.com.

2. Accounts

  1. You can use the word list and study features without signing in. Syncing, study groups and purchasing Lifetime require signing in with a Google account.
  2. When you sign in, the App asks you to agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy, and sign-in does not proceed unless you agree.
  3. You must be at least 14 years old to create an account.
  4. When you sign up, your Google account name is set as your default nickname, and you can change it in the App. Because your nickname and emoji may be shown to other users, the community rules in section 4 apply to them.
  5. You must keep your Google account and device secure, and you must not use the Service with another person's account.
  6. You can delete your account at any time. See the Privacy Policy for how to delete it and which data is deleted.

3. The Service

  1. The Operator provides the following services.
    • Word list: adding words, meanings and notes, organizing them into groups and collections, and CSV import
    • Study: multiple study modes, study history and statistics
    • Word auto-fill and AI study notes: automatically filling in meanings, examples and other information for the terms you enter
    • Sync: syncing your word list and study statistics across devices signed in with the same Google account
    • Shared word sets: publishing word lists on the web version and importing other users' word sets
    • Study groups: creating and joining groups, chat, sharing group word sets, group tests and results boards, and group notifications
    • Lifetime: a paid service that gives you the benefits described in the App, such as ad removal, through a one-time in-app purchase (section 7)
  2. Users without Lifetime may be shown ads.
  3. Some features, such as syncing, word auto-fill, shared word sets, study groups and purchases, require an internet connection.

4. Community rules

  1. "User Content" means anything you add to the Service that may be shown to other users: study group chat messages, group names and descriptions, group word sets (title, description and word list), shared word sets (title, description and word list), and nicknames and emoji.
  2. You must not post the following content or engage in the following behavior:
    • Content that violates the law, or that promotes, advertises or facilitates illegal activity
    • Sexually explicit content, or content that sexualizes or exploits children
    • Content that promotes or glorifies violence, terrorism, self-harm or suicide
    • Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or similar characteristics
    • Harassing, threatening, insulting or defaming others
    • Spam, unauthorized advertising or promotion, scams or phishing
    • Exposing other people's personal information (such as contact details, addresses or ID information) without their consent
    • Content that infringes others' copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual property rights
    • Impersonating the Operator or another person
    • Spreading malware or malicious links, or accessing the Service or interfering with its operation through abnormal means such as automated tools
    • Sharing group invite passwords or invite codes without authorization in a way that harms group members

5. Reporting and enforcement

  1. Study group members can report, in the App, chat messages sent by other users, group word sets uploaded by other users, and other members of the same group. A reason is required when reporting, and reports are not shown to other users.
  2. Content or behavior that cannot be reported in the App (such as shared word sets) can be reported to philleeran@gmail.com.
  3. Group owners can take the following actions in their groups:
    • Delete messages: delete messages in the group.
    • Delete word sets: delete word sets uploaded to the group.
    • Remove members: remove a member from the group. A removed user cannot rejoin that group until the owner lifts the removal.
    • Lift removals: lifting a removal does not automatically bring the user back to the group; to rejoin, they must go through the joining process again.
    • Group settings: choose whether members' test results are shown to other members, whether members can use "Save to my wordbook" in the App, whether the group appears in group search, whether only the owner and editors can chat, the maximum number of members, and whether the results board counts only first attempts.
    • Test settings: set the test mode, direction, number of questions and deadline for each word set. Members get the same questions as set by the owner; after the deadline, the test can only be taken as practice and results are not recorded.
  4. You can block other users from study group chat messages or the member list, and unblock them from your Blocked users list. When you block a user, chat messages they send are hidden from your screen, you do not receive notifications about messages they send or word sets they upload, and they cannot newly join groups you are a member of. Blocking does not remove that user from a group, and word sets they uploaded and their test results are shown just as they would be if you had not blocked them.
  5. The Operator reviews reports and facts the Operator has confirmed, and may delete User Content (messages, word sets and shared word sets) or groups that violate these Terms, or delete the accounts of users who violate them. When an account is deleted, its data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Rights to User Content

  1. Rights to User Content belong to the user who posted it (or the original rights holder). You must have the rights necessary to post your content.
  2. You grant the Operator a free permission to store, copy, transmit and display User Content to the extent necessary to provide the Service. This includes showing messages and word sets to members of the same group, including them in notification text, and showing shared word sets according to the visibility you chose.
  3. In groups where the owner allows it, group members can use the App's "Save to my wordbook" feature to copy words from a group word set, or words they got wrong in a group test, into their own word list; the owner can do so regardless of that setting. Words saved this way remain in that member's word list and are not deleted when the original word set is deleted or when the uploader deletes their account.
  4. In groups you are a member of, you can delete messages you sent (in a group you have rejoined, those sent since you rejoined) and word sets you uploaded, and you can delete shared word sets you published on the web version. When deleted content is retained and removed is governed by the Privacy Policy.
  5. If you leave a group or are removed from it, the messages you sent, word sets you uploaded and test results in that group remain in the group. See the Privacy Policy for which data is deleted and which data remains in groups when you delete your account.

7. Paid services (Lifetime)

  1. Lifetime is a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription, and its price and benefits are as shown in the App and on Google Play.
  2. You must sign in with a Google account to purchase Lifetime. Lifetime applies to the account you are signed in with, and you can also use it on other devices signed in with the same account.
  3. Payments are processed by Google Play, and payment cancellations and refunds are subject to Google Play's refund policies and procedures. Lifetime benefits do not apply to refunded purchases.

8. Changes, interruptions and your data

  1. The Operator may change or discontinue parts of the Service to improve it or as operationally necessary, and will notify you of changes that significantly affect users through an App update or these Terms.
  2. Features that need the server, such as syncing, word auto-fill and study groups, may temporarily not work due to server maintenance or outages, or problems with external services (such as Google and Supabase).
  3. If you are not signed in, your word list and study history are stored only on your device, so they may not be recoverable if you delete the App or switch devices. To keep your data, sign in with a Google account to sync it, or, if you have Lifetime, use CSV export in Settings.
  4. If the Operator shuts down the entire Service, the Operator will notify you before the shutdown through an App update or these Terms.

9. Limitation of liability

  1. The Service is a tool to help you study English vocabulary, and the Operator does not guarantee learning outcomes or test results.
  2. Word auto-fill and AI study notes are generated automatically and may be wrong or inaccurate. Please check important information in a dictionary or other source.
  3. The user who posted User Content is responsible for it. The Operator does not review User Content before it is posted and has no obligation to intervene in disputes between users. However, the Operator may take action under section 5 when it receives a report or becomes aware of a violation.
  4. The Operator is not liable for damages caused by reasons for which the Operator is not responsible, such as natural disasters, causes attributable to the user, or outages of external services. This does not apply to damages caused by the Operator's intentional misconduct or gross negligence.

10. Changes to these Terms

  1. The Operator may change these Terms when necessary, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
  2. When these Terms change, the Operator will update the effective date, and the App will ask signed-in users to agree to the revised Terms again.
  3. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you can sign out and stop using the Service, and you can request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

  1. These Terms are governed by and interpreted under the laws of the Republic of Korea.
  2. Any dispute between the Operator and a user arising from the use of the Service will be resolved in the court having jurisdiction under the Civil Procedure Act of the Republic of Korea.

12. Effective date

These Terms take effect on 2026-09-25.
